Purpose:
Acetylene is a versatile gas used for several applications:
Oxyfuel Process: It serves as a fuel gas when mixed with oxygen for cutting, welding, brazing, and soldering.
Laboratory Use: Acetylene is essential for Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry in laboratories.
What is gas welding?
Oxy-fuel welding, more commonly known as oxyacetylene welding, or gas welding, is used for gas welding and gas cutting.
Oxygen-acetylene gas welding was first developed and used in 1903 by the French Engineers Edmond Fouche and Charles Picard.
Pure oxygen was used instead of ordinary air to increase the flame temperature. Before the advent of arc welding with flux-coated rods, gas welding was the only process available for good quality welding.
Oxygen and Acetylene tanks
Oxygen and acetylene tanks play crucial roles in welding and cutting processes.
Acetylene is a highly flammable gas used as a fuel for welding torches.
These tanks contain acetylene gas dissolved in acetone within a porous mass.
Acetylene cannot be pressurized above 15 psi due to its instability.
Safety precautions are critical when handling acetylene.
Always store and transport acetylene tanks with care and follow safety guidelines.
DSW enjoys a reputation as an industry leader in quality and performance, which helps us sell acetylene gas bottles and Cryogenic Tanks worldwide.
Industrial Applications
Fleet Services (Automotive)
Acetylene is integral in low-pressure carburizing processes that create complex, wear-resistant surface layers on steel parts.
Manufacturing & Metal Fabrication
Acetylene fuel gas boasts the hottest flame temperature of commercially available fuel gases, making it ideal for oxyfuel welding, cutting, and brazing applications.
Laboratories
Air/acetylene and nitrous-oxide/acetylene are the gas mixtures used as a fuel source in Flame Atomic Absorption.
