C2H4O

C2H4O (Ethanal)

C2H4O is the molecular formula for acetaldehyde, also known as ethanal.
Acetaldehyde is used to produce perfumes, polyester resins, and basic dyes and as a starting material in the synthesis of many other chemicals.
Industrial grades are typically 99% pure, while ultra-high purity grades are used for specific applications like medical sterilization.

Gas Packaging for C₂H₄O

  1. Cylinders and Containers:
    • Small Quantities: For laboratory or small-scale industrial use, ethylene oxide is packaged in gas cylinders made of high-strength steel or aluminum. These cylinders are equipped with appropriate valves and pressure relief devices.
    • Cylinder Sizes: Common sizes range from small portable cylinders to larger industrial cylinders, often denoted in liters or cubic feet.
  2. Gas Mixtures:
    • Blends: Ethylene oxide can be supplied as a pure gas or blended with inert gases such as carbon dioxide or nitrogen to reduce flammability risks and control concentration levels for specific applications.
    • Packaging for Mixtures: Blended gases are also supplied in cylinders, with the composition clearly marked to ensure safe handling and usage.
  3. Bulk Containers:
    • ISO Tanks: For larger quantities, ethylene oxide is transported in ISO tanks, which are intermodal containers designed for the safe transport of liquefied gases.
    • Rail Cars and Tankers: In some regions, ethylene oxide is transported in specially designed rail cars or road tankers, adhering to rigorous safety standards.
